(Data) Science with the Kilo-Degree Survey using Astro-WISE. Stepping stone to Euclid

Abstract:
The Kilo-Degree Survey is an optical ESO Public Imaging Survey. Together with its near-IR counterpart survey VIKING it covers 1350 square degrees of extragalactic sky in 9 bands. Both surveys are now nearing observational completion. In this talk, I highlight KiDS/VIKING science results, ranging from nearby asteroids to high-redshift quasars. I describe the survey production approach using the Astro-WISE information system. I will then update on ESA's Euclid Mission and show how it critically depends on precision calibration of KiDS and other ground-based surveys to achieve its scientific goals.
