Invasion Percolation solves the Fermi Paradox but challenges SETI programs

After reviewing some general approaches to the Fermi Paradox, I will discuss the so-called Percolation Solution where the diffusion process of technological civilizations is non-uniform, but full of large voids, even if the colonization cluster percolates through the Galaxy. In particular, I will present a colonization model based on a generalized invasion percolation process that creates a slightly supercritical cluster. The model predicts that Earth is inside a large void and that no colonizing civilizations lie close to us, challenging SETI searches. We make some astrobiological predictions based on a proximal version of the Fermi Paradox.
