Star Clusters in the Outskirts of the Magellanic Clouds
a talk by Bernardo P L Ferreira;(IAG-USP) - In-Person

Abstract:

"The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC and SMC) are the most massive satellites of the Milky Way and the closest pair of interacting binary galaxies. The unique position of the Clouds allows for detailed observations of its stellar populations, including star clusters, for which we can determine critical parameters, such as age, metallicities, and distances. As such, the study of clusters can be used for understanding more general properties of the Clouds themselves, such as their structure and chemical enrichment history. In this talk, I'll present the most recent results of the VISCACHA Survey, which has been observing peripheral star clusters in the Clouds for the past 10 years."

Short-Bio:

I finished my PhD in May of 2025 at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. In August of the same year, I started a post-doc position at IAG-USP, supervised by Professor Beatriz Barbuy. I am a member of the VISCACHA Survey, focused particularly on the study of star clusters in the Large Magellanic Cloud.
