SEMINÁRIO DO DEPARTAMENTO DE ASTRONOMIA
Simulations of galaxies and their environments
a talk by Rubens Eduardo Garcia Machado (IAG-USP) - In-Person
Abstract:
"N-body hydrodynamical simulations are versatile tools to undertand the formation and evolution of galaxies and large scale structure in the Universe. When studying galaxies and galaxy clusters, two complementary approaches are generally employed. On the one hand, idealized simulations allow us to model individual objects in high resolution, or explore the parameter space. On the other hand, cosmological simulations (such as Illustris TNG) provide global statistics in more realistic environments. In this seminar, I will give a broad overview of our recent works in this field, as well as future research projects, covering the following topics: galactic dynamics, especially of barred galaxies; interactions between galaxies; environmental effects, especially ram pressure stripping in jellyfish galaxies; and finally mergers of galaxy clusters."
