What do we talk about when we talk about AI: An Astronomy Perspective

a talk by Rafael S. de Souza (University of Hertfordshire) - In-Person

Abstract:

We explore the historical development and future potential of AI in astronomy. From the early use of neural networks to the current era of generative models, AI has continually transformed how we process and interpret astronomical data. Looking ahead, we advocate for the use of  foundation models fine-tuned for astronomy, leveraging rich multimodal datasets.
