Eta Carinae: a paradigm shift
a retirement talk
Prof. Augusto Damineli
IAG/USP, BR
Eta Carinae acquired a reputation as an unstable and unpredictable star due to its Giant Eruption of the 1840s. Due to its subsequent intricate spectroscopic and photometric variability, it is seen as such until the present day. However, the discovery that part of this behavior is due to the fact that it is a binary system and partly because it is hidden by a kind of circumstellar coronagraph that is dissipating, we have found that it has been quite stable since the 1900s. Although the paradigm has been shifted, it is a dynamic system rich with opportunities to study a range of subjects, from molecular formation to high-energy phenomena.
Questions can be done through the Youtube chat.
After the talk, there will be an event in honor of Prof. Augusto Damineli, including a session of short videos (approximately 30 min), followed by a coffee break.
