MHD turbulence in the presence of strong magnetic fields

Reinaldo de Lima - IAG

Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence is present in virtually all the
astrophysical plasmas, and it affects directly the efficiency of
important astrophysical processes, such as magnetic reconnection and
cosmic-rays acceleration/propagation. For example, recently our group
has shown that turbulence could provide enough transport of magnetic
flux to allow the formation of proto-planetary disks in magnetized
environments. In this talk I will present the results of our numerical
investigation on MHD turbulence in the presence of a strong mean
magnetic field. In particular, we tested the theoretical predictions of
the dependence of the magnetic flux transport provided by turbulence
with the strength of the magnetic fields in the medium.
