Traditionally, Brazilian seismology did not have a clear strategy for acquiring, evaluating, storing and sharing data with a long-term view. Without adequate infrastructure and effective management, the collec- tion of seismological data may be lost or partially unusable (as it has happened many times in the past), resulting in non-uniform coverage, decreasing the chances of local and international collaboration, and mak- ing it difficult to extract scientific knowledge in the future.

Speleothems are secondary mineral deposits formed by dripping and seeping water in caves that can record detrital or chemical remanent magnetizations at sub-annual timescales. They can provide high-resolution paleomagnetic records of short-term variations in Earth’s magnetic field, which are invaluable for understanding the dynamics of the geodynamo.
