Guide for Arrival in Brazil
National Migratory Registry Card
The National Migratory Registry Card (CRNM, formerly known as RNE) is mandatory for all foreigners residing in Brazil. To obtain the document, it is necessary to schedule an appointment with the Brazilian Federal Police within the first 30 days after arrival in the country.
Information can be obtained on the Federal Police website. For guidance on filling out forms and collecting documents, please contact the CCNI/IAG.
Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF)
The Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) is issued by the Federal Revenue Service and is essential for accessing various services, including opening a bank account. Applications can be made at post offices, Caixa Econômica Federal branches, and Banco do Brasil branches. Afterward, the foreigner must present the completed form, proof of payment for the issuance fee, and their passport to the Federal Revenue Service.
Note: This service is currently offered online. For more information, check the Federal Revenue website.
USP Services
Visitors staying for long periods receive access to USP services, such as the sports practice center (Cepeusp), university restaurants (known as “bandejão,” coordinated by SAS/USP), and libraries.
Undergraduate and graduate exchange students receive the USP card and have access to all services at the University of São Paulo, including the University Hospital and the bus lines between the campus and the Butantã metro station. We recommend that they visit the CCNI/IAG upon arrival in Brazil for guidance on identification documents, class attendance, and Portuguese language courses.
