Statistics

The Postgraduate Program in Meteorology began in 1975 within the Geophysics Program and, later, in 1984, it became an independent program. By 2012, 242 master's theses and 85 doctoral dissertations had been completed, with 8 of them through the direct PhD route (Figure 1). Currently, there are 60 students regularly enrolled in the program, with 30 in the Master's and 30 in the PhD. Of the latter, two students are enrolled in the Direct PhD program. Until 1999, the dropout rate was relatively high, as shown in Figure 2 below. In recent years, the number of dropouts has been considerably reduced (Figure 3). Figures 4 and 5 show the number of students who completed the Master's and PhD programs, respectively, over the years. The postgraduate program in Meteorology received a score of 7 in the last two evaluations conducted by CAPES (base years 2004-2006 and 2007-2009).
