ABERTURA DE INSCRIÇÕES AO CONCURSO PÚBLICO DE TÍTULOS E PROVAS VISANDO O PROVIMENTO DE 01 (UM) CARGO DE PROFESSOR DOUTOR NO DEPARTAMENTO DE GEOFÍSICA DO INSTITUTO DE ASTRONOMIA, GEOFÍSICA E CIÊNCIAS ATMOSFÉRICAS DA UNIVERSIDADE DE SÃO PAULO
O Diretor do Instituto de Astronomia, Geofísica e Ciências Atmosféricas da Universidade de São Paulo (IAG/USP) torna público a todos os interessados que, de acordo com o decidido pela Congregação em sessão ordinária realizada em 24/06/2026, estarão abertas, pelo prazo de 90 (noventa) dias, com início às 08 horas (horário de Brasília) do dia 05/08/2026 e término às 17 horas (horário de Brasília) do dia 03/11/2026, as inscrições ao concurso público de títulos e provas para provimento de 01 (um) cargo(s) de Professor Doutor, referência MS-3, em Regime de Dedicação Integral à Docência e à Pesquisa (R.D.I.D.P.), claro/cargo nº 1264826 com o salário de R$ 16.994,01 (maio/2026), junto ao Departamento Geofísica, na área de conhecimento Geodinâmica Computacional, nos termos do art. 125 do Regimento Geral da USP, e o respectivo programa que segue:
- AGG0309 Evolução e Dinâmica Interna da Terra: Fundamentos de estrutura atômica e molecular dos elementos químicos. Abundância dos elementos químicos no Universo e Sistema Solar. Teorias sobre a formação da Terra. Os processos de diferenciação dos elementos químicos no interior e superfície terrestres. Estrutura física da Terra: núcleo, manto e crosta. Estrutura dinâmica da Terra: definições de litosfera, astenosfera e mesosfera. Conceitos de tectônica sobre uma esfera, geometria das placas litosféricas e tipos de bordas. Processos tectônicos e magmáticos associados à dinâmica interna. Deformação da litosfera em ambientes compressionais e extensionais: formação de cadeias de montanhas, bacias sedimentares e depósitos minerais.
- AGG0314 Modelos Quantitativos de Bacias Sedimentares: Propriedades termo-mecânicas da litosfera continental e oceânica. Bacias extensionais, bacias flexurais e bacias transcorrentes. Arquitetura e sedimentação. Importância dos modelos físico-matemáticos em análise de bacias e de risco exploratório.
- AGG5935 Programação de Alto Desempenho para Ciências da Terra: Bloco I: Controle de versão, Ambientes de desenvolvimento, Gerenciamento do processo de compilação de programas e bibliotecas. Bloco II: Lidando com Vetores e Matrizes, Estruturas de Dados, Ponteiros, Alocação dinâmica de memória e funções por referência. Bloco III: Importância da nomenclatura de variáveis, funções e objetos; Paradigmas de programação; Anti-padrões: Conceitos básicos; Orientando o programa em torno de estruturas de dados; Objetos, Instâncias e Interfaces. Bloco IV: Programação paralela e distribuída incluindo problemas e conceitos, granularidade do paralelismo, programação em memória compartilhada (OpenMP) e distribuída (MPI) e, Análise de performance. PETSc (Portable, Extensible Toolkit for Scientific Computation).
O concurso será regido pelos princípios constitucionais, notadamente o da impessoalidade, bem como pelo disposto no Estatuto e no Regimento Geral da Universidade de São Paulo e no Regimento do IAG/USP.

OPENING FACULTY POSITION IN THE DEPARTMENT OF GEOPHYSICS OF THE INSTITUTE OF ASTRONOMY, GEOPHYSICS AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES, UNIVERSITY OF SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL
The Dean of the Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences of the University of São Paulo (IAG/USP), Brazil, invites applications for a faculty position (position No. 1264826, exclusive dedication), in the Department of Geophysics, in the field of Computational Geodynamics. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree awarded by University of São Paulo (USP), recognized by USP, or officially recognized as valid throughout Brazil. The position requires a commitment to teaching and the ability to conduct independent research. Applications will be accepted between August 5, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., and November 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. (GMT -3). The entry-level annual salary (MS3 level) is R$ 220,922.13 plus benefits.
The exams can be performed in Portuguese or English and will cover the following disciplines:
- AGG0309 Evolution and Dynamics of the Earth’s Interior: Fundamentals of atomic and molecular structure of chemical elements. Abundance of chemical elements in the Universe and Solar System. Theories about the formation of the Earth. The processes of differentiation of chemical elements in the interior and surface of the Earth. Physical structure of the Earth: core, mantle and crust. Dynamic structure of the Earth: definitions of lithosphere, asthenosphere, and mesosphere. Concepts of tectonics over a sphere, lithospheric plate geometry and edge types. Tectonic and magmatic processes associated with internal dynamics. Deformation of the lithosphere in compressional and extensional environments: formation of mountain ranges, sedimentary basins and mineral deposits.
- AGG0314 Quantitative Models of Sedimentary Basins: Thermo-mechanical properties of the continental and oceanic lithosphere. Extensional basins, flexural basins and transcurrent basins. Architecture and sedimentation. Importance of physical-mathematical models in basin analysis and exploratory risk.
- AGG5935 High Performance Programming for Earth Sciences: Block I: Version Control, Development Environments, Management of the process of compiling programs and libraries. Block II: Dealing with Vectors and Matrices, Data Structures, Pointers, Dynamic Memory Allocation, and Functions by Reference. Block III: Importance of the nomenclature of variables, functions and objects; Programming paradigms; Anti-patterns: Basic concepts; Orienting the program around data structures; Objects, Instances, and Interfaces. Block IV: Parallel and distributed programming including problems and concepts, parallelism granularity, shared (OpenMP) and distributed (MPI) memory programming, and performance analysis. PETSc (Portable, Extensible Toolkit for Scientific Computation).
The contest will be ruled by Brazilian constitutional principles, notably that of impersonality, as well as by the provisions of the Statute and General Regulations of the Universidade de São Paulo and the Regulations of IAG/USP.
