Mobility for IAG undergraduate students

USP's International Academic Mobility Program allows and encourages its students to participate in academic activities at foreign HEIs. An undergraduate exchange programme enriches the student's experience with new knowledge and a broader cultural repertoire, with positive impact on future employment opportunities.

Undergraduate students who are interested in exchange programmes must research in advance about suitable HEIs and their country, paying attention to application deadlines, admission criteria, language proficiency and financial requirements. The student must also check at IAG's CCNI about Agreement requirements.

We recommend that the student seeks information with a member of our CCNI regarding Agreements and opportunities already available.

General requirements

Obs.: Each notice may present aditional requirements.

Students seeking undergraduate exchange opportunities must:

  • Be regularly enrolled in a USP undergraduate programme;
  • Have completed at least 20% and no more than 90% of the number of required credits for the course;
  • Maintain good academic performance;
  • Be proficient in the language of the destination country.

Exchange duration

  • The exchange programme should have the duration of six months, with extension to up to two years. Per Resolução CoG nº 4974/02, the exchange programme may not exceed four semesters.

Student responsibilities

  • The student must procure passport and other required documentation in time;
  • The student must procure visa accordingly to the destination country's regulations;
  • Flights, health insurance and housing (including University housing) are not provided by USP and must be obtained by the student;
  • The student must submit the signed form "Ficha de Intercâmbio" to the Office of Academic Affairs (ADM-303), with a minimum of 10 days before the start of the exchange programme;
  • Upon returning, the student must submit the exchange report ("Relatório de Intercâmbio") and school record ("Histórico Escolar") listing all the courses attended by the student, or an official declaration about research activities provided by the institution or foreign supervisor (in case of research-only exchange programme).

Mobility for partner institutions

Exchange opportunities at partner institutes are made available through announcements by AUCANI (USP's International Office). Applications must be made at the Mundus system.

It is possible to apply for an exchange opportunity directly with the partner institution, but such requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Important notice: These selections do not garantee financial aid, unless noted in the announcement. IAG's academic agreements do not include financial aid for expenses such as travelling, housing and insurance. The student will have to use their own resources, or apply for financial aid at USP and other funding agencies. Most of the agreements establish a number of students, the exemption of school fees and the validation of credits.

Mobility for non-partner institutions

It is possible to request an exchange opportunity at an institution which does not hold an Agreement with IAG. For such cases, the student should reach CCNI/IAG with information regarding what is required by the institution. IAG and USP do not provide  scholarship for tuituion fees or financial aid for expenses such as travelling, housing and insurance.

Enrollment

During the student exchange, the undergraduate students must be enrolled at USP with the option “Cursando Disciplina no Exterior”. In order to request this enrollment,  the student must submit the signed form "Ficha de Intercâmbio" to the Office of Academic Affairs (ADM-303).

Course equivalence for classes taken abroad

Credits from another institution can transfer into IAG to fulfill degree requirements. The student must request the credit equivalencies at the Undergraduate Office, providing:

  • Official school record, on the institution's official letterhead, with stamp or seal and signature, informing the number of hours for each course;
  • Syllabus for the course, signed and with the stamp or seal of the institution.

The request will only be evaluated after the listed documents are submitted by the student.

Student exchange validation

All students taking part on an international exchange programme must submit the exchange report ("Relatório de Intercâmbio") and documentation for the activities that were developed in the period (school record, or official declaration). IAG's Committee of Undergraduate Studies will review the documentation to validate the student exchange.
